Mandy Flowers….Back to being a mom again!

January 28, 2011

Taking care of three young children is a challenge for any mother but for Mandy Flowers, severe back pain made even the smallest tasks very difficult.

“I was miserable and frustrated because I am 33 years old and felt like I was 83,” said Mandy. “In the months before my surgery at Texas Back Institute, I began to lose range of motion in my legs and wasn’t sleeping more than three to five hours a night. I couldn’t bend over to kiss my son’s cheek without hurting.”

In 2009, Mandy visited Texas Back Institute and Dr. Shawn Henry. While Texas Back Institute does not perform surgery unless absolutely necessary, Dr. Henry’s diagnosis indicated Mandy required a surgical procedure to stabilize her spine. On September 29, 2010, he performed a 360 fusion on the lumbar spine to stabilize her unstable spine.

“The staff was awesome, and Dr. Henry was very informative and explained everything to me and my husband so clearly,” said Mandy. “Texas Back Institute understood my pain and why I was experiencing it. For the past 15 years, I’ve been made to feel like a hypochondriac by other doctors and ultimately my family because previous doctors said nothing was specifically wrong. It was so nice to finally have someone who understood why I was hurting.”

Today, Mandy feels like a new person. She is happy to be able to more easily care for and play with her children again but also looks forward to riding a bicycle, hiking and training to run a marathon.

“My surgery was extremely successful – I am pain-free for the first time in 15 years!” said Mandy. “Texas Back Institute changed my life. I know it sounds cliché, but they truly did. People tell me the painful look on my face is gone, and that I look so happy. I feel so blessed to have found out about Texas Back Institute.”
